The Crested King
The Crested King – Pensnett -Dudley
May 2021 – 6 Metre Tall Steel Galvanized Sculptural Newt
The Crested King is a piece which symbolises the success of nature over development in an area which has suffered from an excessive amount of industrial and corporate exploitation.
The Fens Pool and Pensnett Nature Reserves have long been under threat as prime development land in an area where green space is near impossible to find. When the Great Crested Newt species was found on the site the area became protected as a SSI and development for housing was finally a threat that was off the planners table.
In recognition of the importance of this the Crested King sculpture was commissioned by the trustees of the reserve as an entrance piece and has been an immediate success with local residents and nature lovers.
"We knew Luke Perry was the man for the job.
Watching it grow and see the vision Luke had for the piece got the whole group excited and to see the final result was amazing , it did everything we dreamed off, it got visitors flocking to site and then taking walks , it got the public talking .
Overall a massive success , we can’t thank Luke enough for his input of hard work and design"
