Luke Perry Sculptor

St. James' Friendship Bench.

St James’ School Wollaston 2016

The Friendship bench was designed alongside the school council and in a series of workshops in the school itself.
Working with every child Luke was able to take a pattern from each pupil’s hand, their initial’d hand silhouette’s making up the front of the wave.

The rear of the wave is created by a large number of sea creatures, finally, the net at the front is a seat which when a lone child is sitting upon the rear facing side, this is an invitation for others that they are in need of some reassurance.

The theme of the bench comes from the School’s Patron Saint, St James who was a fisherman, this theme has extended to represent the ocean’s ecology and our need to preserve it for the future.
