Luke Perry Sculptor

Leap of faith.

Dudley Zoo – Galvanized Steel – 2020

The Leap of Faith was commissioned by Zoo Director Derek Grove to draw attention to the sad plight of Lemurs in Madagasgar where they are threatened with extinction due to habitat loss.

It was obvious that to create a talking point we needed to make a sculpture that was impressive enough to draw everyone’s attention.

The artwork is 8 metres long and 7 metres in height and made from hand beaten steel. People can walk beneath the piece and watch the lemurs as they play with and on the sculpture which is of ‘Baby Faith’ the youngest of the lemurs recently born at the zoo.

Faith rides on his mon’s back as she jumps from one pole to an uncertain future represented by the lower column which has text cut into it highlighting the sorts of dangers facing the lemurs today.
