Dudley Canal Trust

December 2010- July 2011 Design manufacture and installation of 33 Sculptures for the Dudley Canal Network.

This local history project involved hundreds of local residents and school children in the research and development of a series of 35 steel sculptures along 5 miles of the Dudley Canal. The community engagement directly influenced each of the 35 designs, the local people involved now feel such ownership for the artworks that they regularly clean and polish them! Each sculpture built was bespoke to the site and designed to be resistant to any vandalism that would be possible along the canal. The pieces ranged from Elephants to Anvils and were all around person sized, made from Steel with Granite edgings.

“Luke is one of the few artists I have worked with that is able to conceive, fabricate and install whilst understanding the overall vision and objectives.”

Claire Farrell, Director of EC Arts.
